Meet Rachel Smith
This community has helped shape who I am.
After attending college here in the upstate, I started my career as a teacher, right here in this district, at Monaview Elementary. I went on to pursue a Master’s degree in Teaching English as a Second Language at Furman University. After that I taught English at Lakeview Middle School, furthering my service to this community.
After almost a decade in the classroom, I decided to take my passion for education and helping people solve problems in a new direction and transitioned into consulting. Today, I work with organizations to identify challenges, build practical solutions, and create meaningful change.
While my career path has evolved, my commitment to service has not. My experience in consulting has strengthened my ability to think strategically, bring people together, and turn ideas into action—skills that I believe are essential for effective leadership.
In my free time you can find me in my garden, at the Berea library, the TR farmer’s market, Swamp Rabbit Grocery, or a local book club—usually with an iced coffee in hand from one of my favorite local coffee shops.
I’m your neighbor, and I’m invested in this community. The decisions made in Columbia affect our daily lives, but too often we feel disconnected from the process. I want to be a voice for District 19 at the State House and make sure the concerns of our community are heard.
